Time for a little down under at the Down Under. On Friday May 2nd Harper returned once again to Springfield, bringing with him his unique style of Austalian outback influenced blues. Harper was born in the United Kingdom. When he was ten, his family moved half way round the world to Perth, Western Australia. This is where his father introduced Harper to the harp. He was fascinated with the spirituality and culture of the Australian Aborigines who taught him to play the didgeridoo, a native instrument that is a big part of his unique sound. Over the years Harper has received multiple Australian Blues Awards for “Acoustic Artist of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Male Vocalist of the Year.” His 2003 release, "Way Down Deep Inside", received two harmonica awards and “Album of the Year” honor from US Magazine's Guide to the Best of the Blues Harmonicas & Beyond. He's currently signed with national recording label Blind Pig Records and just released a new album "Day By Day".

Harper is always a treat to see. Not only because of his music, but his ability to entertain the crowd all night with his down to earth humor. An avid storyteller, most of the funny quips had to do with something that is near and dear to him - Beer. To here it from him, drinking is a national pastime in Australia. The concert was primarily a mix of entertaining tunes off the last 2 CD's and the newly released album. Harper is definately one of the most smoking harp players to ever grace the Springfield area. If you have never seen him before, you need to make it a point to catch him live. He also one of the most friendly artists who visit the area, happy to interact with his fans.
